Scarlett Johansson has officially claimed the top spot as the highest-grossing lead actor in Hollywood history, following the massive box office success of Jurassic World Rebirth.
According to box office tracking site The Numbers, Johansson’s lead roles in 18 films have earned a combined global total of $14.8 billion. Her latest role as Zora Bennett in the Jurassic World sequel pushed her past Marvel co-stars Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Downey Jr., now ranked second and third, respectively.
Several blockbuster films contributed to Johansson’s record-shattering milestone, including Avengers: Endgame ($2.7 billion), Infinity War ($2 billion), The Avengers ($1.5 billion), Age of Ultron ($1.4 billion), and Captain America: Civil War ($1.1 billion). Other notable contributions include The Jungle Book, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Sing, and Iron Man 2.
In an earlier interview, Johansson expressed how long she had hoped to join the Jurassic franchise. “I’ve been trying to get into this franchise in any possible way for over 10 years,” she said. “I’m like, ‘I’ll die in the first five minutes! I can get eaten by whatever! I’ll do the craft service!’ I’ll do anything for it.”
Her portrayal of Zora Bennett, a character racing against time to secure life-saving dinosaur DNA, is already drawing praise, and if the film’s performance holds steady, Johansson is projected to become the first actor to surpass the $15 billion mark at the global box office.
The 40-year-old actress first rose to fame with Lost in Translation in 2003 and has since built a diverse portfolio of acclaimed performances in films like Marriage Story, Jojo Rabbit, Lucy, and Black Widow.
