The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has introduced new job opportunities for household workers in Saudi Arabia, allowing them to live outside their employers’ homes.
DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac announced that the new roles, such as residential support workers and cleaners, will not require workers to stay in their employers’ residences. Instead, they will live in dormitories or facilities provided by their recruitment agencies and commute to their assigned workplaces.
“This allows our workers to maintain a live-out setup, offering a more independent living arrangement,” Cacdac shared during an interview with TeleRadyo Serbisyo.
Residential support workers will hold skilled worker visas, as opposed to traditional domestic worker visas. Under this setup, their employers will be the mega recruitment companies (MRCs) rather than private households, according to DMW.
DMW Undersecretary for Foreign Employment and Welfare Felicitas Bay clarified that residential support workers will primarily focus on maintaining cleanliness in residences and will not be tasked with childcare or direct employer care.
The position offers a monthly salary of 1,500 Saudi Riyals, a 500 Riyal food allowance, overtime pay for work beyond eight hours, and additional benefits, including health insurance. Employers will also provide transportation and accommodation.
