Saudi Arabia mandates insurance for domestic workers in large households

The Saudi Council of Health Insurance (CHI) and the Insurance Authority (IA) have begun enforcing a new mandate requiring employers to provide insurance for domestic workers if their number exceeds four.

This initiative aims to ensure comprehensive healthcare for all beneficiaries, promoting justice, transparency, and excellence among all stakeholders.

To apply the benefits and coverage limits under this policy, employers must submit a medical disclosure form, obtain approval from a health insurance company, and ensure coverage for all workers.

According to a Saudi Gazette report, the policy includes primary healthcare, public health, and emergency services, with provisions for hospital admissions without co-payment, unlimited emergency clinic visits, vaccinations, and medical checkups.

Iman Al-Tariqi, spokesperson for the CHI, emphasized that the decision not only aims to achieve comprehensive healthcare and sustainable health coverage but also encourages health insurance companies and healthcare providers to develop new products and create job opportunities in both medical and non-medical fields.
