The Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed on Wednesday that complaints for direct assault, disobedience, and grave coercion have been filed against Vice President Sara Duterte, Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG) head Col. Raymund Dante Lachica, and other unidentified individuals.
According to a GMA News report, the charges, submitted to the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office, relate to disruptions at the House of Representatives Detention Center and Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) involving the detention of Duterte’s chief of staff, Atty. Zuleika Lopez. Lopez had been cited for contempt by the House committee on good government and public accountability and was initially ordered to serve a five-day detention, later extended to 10 days due to the incident.
Dr. Van Jason Villamor of the PNP Health Service and his witnesses reportedly filed the complaint, citing interference with lawful detention and the forced transfer of Lopez from VMMC to St. Luke’s Medical Center using a private ambulance. In a video, Lachica was seen physically pushing Villamor during the incident.
PNP Chief General Romeo Brawner Jr. emphasized the police force’s commitment to uphold justice, stating, “The PNP remains steadfast in ensuring accountability under the law, regardless of one’s position.” He also expressed confidence in the legal process and pledged cooperation with the ongoing proceedings.
Duterte has denied wrongdoing, labeling the transfer of her staff as an “attempted homicide” and describing Lopez’s extended detention as “illegal.” She is scheduled to hold a press conference later to address the complaints.
Separately, Presidential Adviser for Poverty Alleviation Larry Gadon has filed a complaint with the Supreme Court seeking Duterte’s disbarment.
