Sara Duterte heads to Japan to rally OFW support for ‘Bring Duterte Home’ campaign

Vice President Sara Duterte announced that she will be traveling to Japan later this month to gather support from overseas Filipinos for her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, who remains in detention in The Hague.

“Yes. We already confirmed (our presence) to the organizers in Japan… Sept. 20, Tokyo and then Sept. 21, in Nagoya, so that’s for the entire weekend, Saturday, Sunday. We have a Filipino community gathering in Japan,” Duterte confirmed.

The Vice President said these visits are part of the broader “Bring Duterte Home” campaign, which also includes rallies in The Hague and mobilizations in the Philippines. Her father has been detained in the Netherlands since March, awaiting trial for crimes against humanity.

“I understand there will be here in The Hague and likely, there will be many (mobilizations) inside the Philippines,” Duterte added.

The Japan trip marks her 13th overseas engagement this year. It also follows her fourth visit to her father in The Hague just recently. In previous months, Duterte has traveled extensively, including stops in Kuwait, France, South Korea, Malaysia, Australia, Qatar, Hong Kong, and multiple visits to the Netherlands.
