Vice President Sara Duterte called on Filipinos to embody the spirit of Christmas by offering love, forgiveness, and respect, especially to the poor and sick, during the holiday season.
“As we reflect on the essence of Christmas, we are all called to be forgiving, generous, and loving toward one another,” Duterte said in her Christmas Eve message. She highlighted that the birth of Jesus symbolizes forgiveness, rooted in God’s unconditional love.
She encouraged Filipinos to follow this example in their interactions, particularly within their families and loved ones. Beyond material gifts, Duterte emphasized the importance of extending understanding and respect.
“We are invited to give love, respect, and understanding to everyone, especially the poor and the sick. This is the true meaning of this season, a reminder for all of us not only in December but every day,” she added.
The statement comes as Pulse Asia released survey results showing a notable decline in Duterte’s public trust and approval ratings in November. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. also experienced a dip in ratings, particularly in Mindanao and among economically disadvantaged Filipinos.
