Vice President Sara Duterte joined her legal team and supporters for a quiet “thanksgiving celebration” just a day after the Senate officially archived the impeachment complaint filed against her, marking the end of a months-long political battle.
The gathering came on the heels of the Senate’s overwhelming decision—19 in favor, 4 against, and 1 abstention—to drop the impeachment proceedings. This followed a July 25 ruling by the Supreme Court declaring the complaint unconstitutional under the “one-year bar rule,” which prohibits more than one impeachment attempt against the same official within a year.
Though no public statements were released from Duterte during the celebration, her presence at the event was seen as a symbolic victory lap after withstanding allegations ranging from fund misuse to plotting violence—charges that were never proven in court but attracted significant media and political attention.
The Supreme Court’s decision does not clear her of the accusations, but it does shield her from further impeachment complaints until at least February 2026.
