Vice President Sara Duterte has expressed that she has no expectations for her upcoming impeachment trial, maintaining that she is at peace regardless of the outcome. The trial is tentatively set to begin on July 30 under the 20th Congress.
Speaking to reporters in Davao City, Duterte emphasized her acceptance of the trial’s result, whether it ends in acquittal or a guilty verdict.
“Wala akong expectations of acquittal or a verdict guilty basta sa akin lang, tinanggap ko na kung ano yung magiging verdict, guilty man yon or acquittal. I’m already at peace,” she stated.
The Vice President also urged the public to refrain from speculating about the votes of senators involved in the impeachment process.
“If at all, there will be a trial, I think it is wrong to start counting votes now because they haven’t seen the evidence yet,” she explained.
Duterte revealed that her legal team is fully engaged in preparing for the trial, and she has insisted on moving forward with the proceedings. According to her, she even requested a “bloodbath” in the legal battle.
“Sinabihan ko na rin talaga sila, really, I truly want a trial because I want a bloodbath talaga,” she declared.
Duterte acknowledged the presence of Akbayan party-list nominee Chel Diokno and ML Party-list nominee Leila De Lima as part of the House prosecuting team. She was not surprised by their involvement, noting their long-standing criticism of the Duterte family.
The Vice President’s impeachment was triggered by accusations of “high crimes,” including an alleged assassination plot against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Duterte maintained that her lawyers are preparing a supplemental affidavit denying any involvement in criminal offenses such as inciting sedition and grave threats.
“They will submit a supplemental document… I am sure you will know about it once it is filed in the NBI,” Duterte said, leaving the specifics to her legal team.
