Vice President Sara Duterte has publicly expressed support for Senator Imee Marcos’ reelection bid, marking a significant political shift after Duterte’s departure from the administration’s senatorial slate.
In a video posted on Senator Marcos’ Facebook page, the two were seen dressed in black, symbolically “mourning” what they described as the grim state of the nation.
“Itim ngayon ang kulay ng bansa. Sa gutom at krimen nagluluksa,” Duterte declared.
Senator Marcos echoed the sentiment, saying, “Gutom na ang sikmura, gutom pa sa hustisya. Ginigipit ang hindi kaalyansa.”
Duterte concluded the video with a direct endorsement: “Iboto si Sen. Imee.”
The move comes amid a rift between Senator Marcos and her brother, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., particularly over their opposing views on the possible arrest and transfer of former President Rodrigo Duterte to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
