Sandro Marcos says no committee changes for now as House focuses on 2026 budget

House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos made it clear that leadership changes in committees will have to wait, stressing that the chamber’s top priority is passing the proposed 2026 national budget.

“We’re in the middle of the budget season and we have to pass the most important law (the next General Appropriations Act) of our country,” the Ilocos Norte lawmaker told reporters on Thursday. He added that reorganizing chairmanships at this stage would only derail the process. “I don’t think there will be any changes for now in the chairships or the composition of the leadership because it’s too disruptive to what we are going through.”

His statement comes after Isabela Rep. Faustino “Bojie” Dy III assumed the speakership following the resignation of Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez, who stepped down amid allegations of irregularities in flood control projects and budget insertions.

Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco, who had previously pushed for a reshuffle, acknowledged that timing makes such changes difficult but maintained that reforms in leadership remain necessary.

The only possible exception is the House infrastructure committee, which continues its probe into questionable flood control projects. Dy has already ordered the panel to work closely with the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) created by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
