Sandro Marcos calls out VP Duterte for ‘crossing the line’ with inflammatory comments

Ilocos Norte Representative Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos expressed strong disapproval on Tuesday regarding Vice President Sara Duterte’s controversial remarks about his father, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., and his grandfather, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

Sandro, the president’s son, broke his silence, stating that Duterte had “crossed the line.” He was referring to her comments that she would exhume the late former president’s body and decapitate the current president if criticisms against her continued.

“Forget that the objects of her derisions are dear to me, but I would also be remiss in my responsibility as an Ilocano representative if I didn’t voice out my disdain at the abhorrent comments she so carelessly uttered,” Sandro said. He emphasized that his sentiments were shared not only by his fellow Ilocanos but by many across the country.

Sandro mentioned that he had previously stayed silent out of respect for the Duterte family, following his father’s advice. However, he admitted that the vice president’s remarks had crossed a line. “Going ballistic was perhaps the self-therapy she prescribed for herself,” he added.

Despite his frustration, Sandro extended well wishes to Duterte, saying, “May she find the peace of mind and mental clarity that seems to be eluding her.”

Vice President Duterte has yet to respond to the comments, and Malacañang has declined to issue a statement. Her tirades on October 18 included threats and accusations directed at President Marcos, further straining their relationship since their joint candidacy in 2022.
