San Juan City has made history as the first locality in Metro Manila to be officially recognized as drug-cleared by the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing.
The committee—which includes the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Philippine National Police (PNP), and Department of Health (DOH)—granted the distinction after all of San Juan’s barangays met the strict standards required for drug-free certification.
This milestone comes after San Juan achieved 100% barangay-level drug clearance in 2023. City-wide drug-free recognition, however, demands more rigorous validation beyond the barangay level.
Further strengthening its reputation for safety, San Juan also holds the lowest crime volume among Metro Manila’s cities.
The official awarding of the Drug Cleared City Certificate and Barangay Seal of Excellence will follow once the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) lifts its moratorium, but the designation is already in force.
