Samahang Plaridel vows to support CFO in connecting with Filipino diaspora

Samahang Plaridel, one of the country’s most respected organizations for journalists and media practitioners, has vowed to lend its support to the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) in its crucial mission to reach, protect, and mobilize the millions of Filipino migrants worldwide.

The commitment emphasizes the media group’s role in nation-building by ensuring that vital information—from anti-human trafficking warnings to investment opportunities—reaches Filipinos scattered across the globe.

The pledge of support was made during a recent courtesy visit by top Samahang Plaridel officers to CFO Chairman Secretary Dante “Klink” Ang II. The delegation included Samahang Plaridel President Evelyn Quiroz, Vice President Andy Sevilla, and Corporate Secretary Hector Villacorta.

The CFO’s mandate centers on safeguarding the welfare of overseas Filipinos and serving as the government’s primary link to the diaspora, encouraging them to invest and share their expertise back home. Partnering with influential media groups like Samahang Plaridel is crucial for amplifying these messages effectively.

Established by a group of distinguished journalists, Samahang Plaridel has a long-standing history of promoting press freedom, journalistic integrity, and responsible media practice in the Philippines.

Named after Marcelo H. del Pilar’s pseudonym, “Plaridel,” the organization embodies the spirit of the Propaganda Movement, which sought to enlighten and empower Filipinos through writing during the Spanish colonial era.

Today, Samahang Plaridel serves as a prominent association for seasoned media executives, newspaper editors, veteran broadcast personalities, and highly respected public information officers. Its membership includes some of the most influential figures in Philippine media, giving the organization a significant reach across print, broadcast, and digital platforms.

Its mission extends beyond professional networking, often engaging in advocacy to strengthen good governance and national development initiatives. By aligning with the CFO, the organization leverages its vast communication network and credibility to help the government engage more effectively with the Filipino diaspora, ensuring they remain partners in national progress.
