A heartwarming gesture between a teacher and her Grade 5 student at Barang Elementary School caught the attention and hearts of netizens during this year’s World Teachers’ Day celebrations on October 3, 2023.
Teacher Luisa Conmigo was pleasantly surprised to receive a bouquet not of flowers but of “saluyot,” a leafy vegetable, from her 10-year-old student, Jerick Cancino. This marked the first time in her nearly three decades of teaching that she had received such an unexpected and thoughtful gift.
“I noticed it right away and smiled at him. It was truly special because this is the first time I’ve received a saluyot bouquet. But to me, all my pupils are equal in my eyes,” an elated Conmigo shared with the Philippine STAR.
“It’s rare for a child to give saluyot as a gift, especially with the joy he displayed while handing it to me,” she continued.
Conmigo, who has dedicated 29 years of her life to shaping young minds and currently serves as the adviser for Cancino’s class, undoubtedly experienced an unforgettable World Teachers’ Day, thanks to a student’s heartwarming gesture.
