Rufa Mae Quinto cleared of securities charges, celebrates newfound freedom

Actress and comedienne Rufa Mae Quinto is celebrating a major legal victory after multiple charges filed against her under the Securities Regulation Code were officially dismissed.

The charges, which stemmed from her alleged involvement with Dermacare—a company also linked to former actress Neri Naig-Miranda’s brief detention—led to the issuance of a warrant for Quinto’s arrest in December 2023. She voluntarily returned to the Philippines on January 8 and surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation, posting bail the same day. With 14 counts filed against her, bail totaled over ₱1.7 million.

In a recent update, Quinto revealed that all charges had been dropped. “Maraming salamat sa naniwala sa akin… I’m free and alive!” she posted on X, formerly Twitter, on May 2, accompanying the statement with a video set to Celine Dion’s “I’m Alive.”

Her legal team confirmed to ABS-CBN that the case was dismissed on April 24 due to a procedural error: the complainants failed to lodge the complaint with the Securities and Exchange Commission prior to elevating it to the prosecutor’s office.

On Instagram, Quinto echoed her joy with celebratory selfies and the caption: “Na-quash na case! Malayang-malaya! To GOD be the GO GO GLORY!”

Supporters online have since joined in her celebration, resharing her posts and expressing relief over the court’s ruling.
