RTA reveals sleek, modern design for upcoming Dubai Blue Line metro stations

Dubai’s new Blue Line metro stations will feature sleek and futuristic designs, as revealed by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) during the Global Rail conference in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. The station model displayed at the RTA stand presented a smooth, curved structure with an oval-shaped design arching over the main platform, offering a fresh departure from the fully enclosed stations of the Red and Green Lines, Khaleej Times reported.

Alongside the main platform, the exits of the stations will showcase a modern, symmetrical look with curved aesthetics. A video presentation highlighted that the Blue Line will serve key areas like Mirdiff, International City, and Academic City.

One of the line’s most significant features is a 1,300-metre viaduct that will cross Dubai Creek, connecting Al Jaddaf with Dubai Festival City and Dubai Creek Harbour. This connection is expected to drastically cut travel time for commuters in the area.

Scheduled for completion in 2029, the 30km Blue Line will integrate with the existing Red and Green Lines. It is part of Dubai’s broader 2040 Urban Master Plan, which aims to establish a ’20-minute city,’ ensuring that essential services are within a 20-minute commute for residents.

The Global Rail conference, which gathered over 150 senior representatives, showcased innovative technologies, including a smart maintenance system developed by the Technology Innovation Institute. This system uses sensors on wagons to provide real-time data on track conditions and maintenance needs. According to researcher Prabhakaran Balasubramanian, “Even if the system is 50 per cent accurate, it can significantly reduce maintenance costs.”

The event also featured a Finance Pavilion, aimed at connecting financiers with developers to fund future transport projects.
