The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai unveiled two state-of-the-art footbridges on Ras Al Khor Road. These bridges are part of the RTA’s larger initiative, announced earlier this year, to build seven pedestrian overpasses.
Aimed at bolstering traffic safety and pedestrian accessibility, these bridges reflect RTA’s ongoing dedication to ensuring secure crossing points for residents and visitors. Equipped with cutting-edge electromechanical systems, alarms, fire protection, remote monitoring systems, and bicycle racks, the footbridges showcase both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
Abdulla Al Ali, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA, emphasized the organization’s global stance on traffic safety, noting, “Footbridges are critical service amenities we aim to construct in alignment with the highest international standards.”
The first bridge, spanning 174 metres, connects Creek Harbour with the Ras Al Khor Industrial Area. With widths varying between 3.4 to 4.1 metres, the bridge stands 6.5 metres tall and includes dual 120-metre ramps designed especially for cyclists.
Conversely, the second footbridge, positioned opposite Marhaba Mall and Wasl Complex in Nadd Al Hamar, is 101 metres long and 6.5 metres tall. Its features parallel the first bridge, boasting electromechanical system rooms and comprehensive safety mechanisms.
Highlighting the meticulous planning behind the footbridges, Al Ali added, “Their strategic locations are determined by several factors, including pedestrian safety hotspots, traffic volume, and the proximity to essential facilities like bus stops, markets, and other key establishments.”
