Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed 20 out of 40 planned air-conditioned rest areas for delivery riders across key locations in the emirate. These rest areas, designed to enhance the comfort and well-being of delivery drivers, offer air-conditioned spaces equipped with snack vending machines, water dispensers, and mobile phone charging stations. Each location can accommodate up to 10 people and includes ample motorcycle parking.
The initiative aims to improve the happiness of delivery riders while waiting for orders and encourage adherence to traffic laws. The rest areas will be strategically placed in high-demand areas such as Hessa Street, Al Barsha Heights, Al Karama, and Dubai Marina, among others.
RTA Director-General Mattar Al Tayer emphasized that the project is part of Dubai’s broader Traffic Safety Strategy, which aims for “Zero Fatalities” and seeks to make Dubai the world leader in traffic safety. The growth in the delivery sector, driven by public demand, has led to a significant increase in the number of delivery companies and bikes, with over 2,500 companies operating more than 40,000 bikes as of June.
