Singer-actor Ronnie Liang has clarified that he has no “personal dealings” with former presidential spokesman Harry Roque after a 2022 video of the two on Dinagat Island resurfaced. The video, part of Roque’s vlog The Spox Hour, shows them engaging playfully, with Roque joking about convincing Liang to go topless during their visit.
Liang, who is also a licensed private pilot and a Philippine Army reservist, was on the island to distribute relief goods to Typhoon Odette victims. “Ronnie only chanced upon Atty. Roque after the humanitarian aid mission, during the tour of the island,” said Liang’s lawyer, Rafael Vicente Calinsan. He emphasized that Liang’s presence was purely coincidental and part of his reservist duties.
Despite speculation, Calinsan made it clear that Liang is not an “alaga” of Roque. He added that Liang, being courteous, participated in the vlog out of politeness. Calinsan also suggested that efforts should be directed towards more pressing issues like investigating the effects of POGOs or promoting gender equality.
Liang expressed his support for the LGBTQIA+ community, aligning with Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and Pride PH’s advocacy for equality. He praised the “Love Laban 2 Everyone Pride Festival” held on June 22 at Quezon Memorial Circle.
On Facebook, Liang reflected on public perception, noting, “When people hear good things about you, they stay silent. When they hear bad things about you, they spread it like wildfire. But when they hear nothing about you, they make things up.” He encouraged focusing on self-improvement and letting actions speak for themselves.
Roque, recently under scrutiny for documents found in a POGO raid in Pampanga, clarified his involvement with the documents, asserting that they were non-criminal and related to his former legal work. He also defended his hiring of Alberto Rodulfo De La Serna as an executive assistant, highlighting De La Serna’s qualifications and political family background. The Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) cleared Roque’s name, confirming that his legal work for Whirlwind Corporation was not criminal.
