After renewing his contract with Viva Entertainment, Senator Robin Padilla revealed he is eager to reunite with Sharon Cuneta for a long-discussed sequel to their 1991 blockbuster Maging Sino Ka Man. The idea, he said, is something Viva Entertainment Chairman and COO Vic del Rosario, Jr. has been urging for years.
Padilla spoke to entertainment reporters shortly after formalizing a new partnership that will see his RCP International Productions working closely with Viva Films on a slate of future projects. One of the earliest outcomes of this collaboration is the long-delayed Bad Boy 3, which he described as two years in the making and now headed to Netflix.
“Ito na yung pinaka-birthday gift ko dahil wala po akong pinapangarap kundi ang makabalik dito sa Viva. Dito po ako masaya, ito po yung greatest gift ko. Salamat po,” Padilla said.
Del Rosario responded warmly to the actor’s return. “Dito naman ang mundo mo and welcome ka sa Viva anytime. Pati picture mo, nasa harap ko, every day kaya nagpapasalamat ako na yung ibinilin ko sa ’yo na huwag gagawa ng hindi dapat gawin ay ginagawa mo. I’m proud of you,” he told him.
Padilla also recalled a humorous reaction to public scrutiny over his declared net worth. “Sabi nga nila, Boss, nu’ng naglabas ako ng SALN, ’Ang dami mo naman pera! Two hundred million pesos!’ Sabi ko, ‘Ha? Ginawa akong bilyonaryo ni Boss Vic. Nung naging pulitiko ako, naging PHP200 million na lang yan,’” he joked.
The renewed collaboration between the senator and Viva dates back to a conversation at the company’s anniversary celebration two years ago. Padilla said that was the moment when Del Rosario pressed him to resume Bad Boy 3, eventually pushing them back into production around August last year despite his tight schedule. Reviewing the early footage convinced them to move forward with more films.
Beyond Bad Boy 3, preparations have begun for follow-up projects tied to Padilla’s earlier hits, including Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum and the much-anticipated continuation of Maging Sino Ka Man.
Padilla said Del Rosario has been eager to bring the Sharon-Robin tandem back to the screen. “Si Boss Vic, gusto niya talagang gawin yung Maging Sino Ka Man Part 2. Sabi niya, ‘Panahon na para gawin mo na yun.’ Sabi ko, ‘Sige po. Basta po pumayag si Ma’am Sharon.’ Ang sabi niya, ‘Kakausapin natin si Senator Kiko [Pangilinan, ang asawa ni Sharon],’” he said.
