Senator Robin Padilla has called on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to intervene and prevent the Philippine National Police (PNP) from carrying out orders from foreign institutions, following the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte under an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant.
Padilla argued that complying with directives from external bodies undermines Philippine sovereignty and could set a dangerous precedent. “We must consider the sentiments of our people, especially in these critical times when the world is shaping its future,” he said.
The senator also stressed the importance of national unity, urging Marcos to take decisive action. “The fate of our beloved country now rests in your hands, Mr. President,” he added.
Duterte was taken into custody at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and is set to be flown to The Hague, Netherlands, for trial at the ICC. While critics support the move as a step toward justice, Duterte’s allies—including Padilla—continue to challenge the legal basis of his arrest.
