Abu Dhabi road cameras recently recorded two severe collisions resulting from reckless lane changes on busy highways. The Abu Dhabi Police issued a warning on Friday, emphasizing the dangers of sudden lane deviations, which can lead to major accidents.
In a 49-second video released by the police, two accidents were highlighted, showing how they could have been prevented if the drivers had stayed in their lanes or exercised caution when changing lanes.
According to a Khaleej Times report, the first incident involved a dark-colored sedan cutting across three lanes without using an indicator. Attempting to exit on the right, the car squeezed between two trucks, failing to notice fast-moving vehicles. The sedan collided with a white car, causing it to be thrown across the five-lane highway, with its trunk completely destroyed. The white car also hit another vehicle, which spun out of control, losing its rear bumper.
In the second incident, a silver SUV changed lanes suddenly without signaling, hitting a pickup truck on the fast lane. The pickup truck driver lost control, causing the vehicle to zigzag and collide back into the SUV. The impact caused the silver four-wheel drive to crash through the barrier and hit a heavy vehicle.
The police reminded motorists that sudden deviation is a serious traffic offense, punishable by a Dh1,000 fine and four black points. The penalty for wrong overtaking ranges from Dh600 to Dh1,000, depending on the severity of the offense.
