Riyadh has activated an emergency response plan to tackle heavy rainfall and hailstorms affecting the city and surrounding provinces. The municipality deployed teams to manage water accumulation and ensure smooth traffic flow in affected areas.
According to a Gulf News report, the plan was executed in three phases: preparation, intervention, and recovery. Preventive measures included clearing water channels, maintaining drainage systems, and preparing emergency equipment. During the downpour, field teams were stationed in critical areas to regulate traffic and conduct drainage operations.
More than 6,500 personnel, including engineers and inspectors, were mobilized, backed by 1,800 specialized vehicles and equipment for rapid response. The municipality also ramped up public awareness efforts, issuing weather updates and safety alerts. Residents were urged to report incidents through the “Madinati” app and the 940 call center for swift action.
