Rising from Dubai’s first Filipino structural engineer to CEO

In the realm of engineering, Orandantes ‘Dante’ Delizo exemplifies dedication, resilience, and leadership. He serves as the CEO and Managing Director of Three Leaves Technical Engineering Services LLC, a newly established company specializing in landscaping, architecture, civil, and structural works. Dante’s 39-year career abroad is marked by numerous significant milestones and achievements.

Dante began his overseas career in 1985, hired as a Civil/Structural Engineer by a local consulting design firm in Dubai. This opportunity made him the first Filipino structural engineer in the city, a role that paved the way for his future accomplishments. His initial responsibilities involved designing multi-story buildings and infrastructure projects.

“It was a significant milestone, contributing to the design of multi-story buildings and infrastructure projects,” Dante tells The Global Filipino Magazine.

His educational background is as impressive as his career trajectory. Dante graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Holy Angel University in Angeles City, Philippines. He further honed his expertise by earning a Master of Engineering in Structures from the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok, Thailand.

Professional milestones and career highlights

Throughout his career, Dante has held various key positions, each contributing to his growth and expertise in the engineering field. His roles ranged from a Structural Engineer at Munir Architects/Engrs/Consultants to a Senior Structural Engineer and Project Manager at prestigious firms like Peter Hudson Buckle & Partners, Cansult Ltd, RMJM Ltd, and Halcrow Yolles. He also served as a Principal Structural Engineer at Poyry Energy Ltd and a Project Manager at Tebodin Middle East Ltd/Bilfinger Middle East before assuming his current leadership role at Three Leaves Technical Engineering Services LLC.

Reflecting on his journey, Dante highlights his appointment as CEO and Managing Director as the pinnacle of his career.

“This role allows me to leverage my extensive experience in engineering and project management to steer a company towards success, fostering innovation and excellence in every project we undertake,” he explains.

Dante’s decision to work abroad was driven by the potential for financial benefits, career advancement, and personal growth.

“This experience has been instrumental in shaping both my professional trajectory and personal development, allowing me to achieve goals that would have been difficult to attain otherwise,” he shares.

His work abroad has offered him opportunities to immerse in different cultures, learn from diverse teams, and grow both personally and professionally.

Living and working in a foreign country comes with its own set of challenges. Dante faced cultural adjustments, language barriers, and the need to build a new social network.

“When I arrived in Dubai 39 years ago, I initially thought I would only finish my 3-year contract due to the vastly different customs, social norms, and daily routines compared to what I was used to,” he admits. However, his resilience and adaptability allowed him to thrive.

Dante’s strategies for overcoming these challenges included learning about the local culture, joining expatriate and local communities, and seeking professional adaptation.

“By joining different organizations in the UAE and sharing my skills, I was able to meet many people who needed my services in the community,” he notes.

His support system, comprising family, friends, and new colleagues, played a crucial role in his successful settlement abroad.

Future plans and aspirations

Looking ahead, Dante plans to leverage his international experience to advance his career and take on leadership roles that allow him to apply his global perspective. He also aspires to mentor others who are considering working abroad, sharing his insights to help them navigate challenges and maximize opportunities.

Dante’s future goals include promoting cross-cultural collaboration through his business, supporting local development projects, and spending quality time with his family. He is passionate about sustainability and environmental conservation, human rights, and social justice, and intends to support these advocacies through various initiatives.

To his fellow Filipinos facing difficulties abroad, Dante offers guidance on staying connected with loved ones, managing finances wisely, understanding employment rights, building trustworthy relationships, and prioritizing well-being.

“Living and working abroad can be incredibly rewarding, but it comes with its own set of challenges,” he advises. “Remember, you are not alone—seek support from your community and fellow kababayans, and always stay hopeful and resilient.”
