A motorcycle rider in Barangay Tawan-Tawan, Davao City, lost his vehicle after attempting to cross a river swollen by heavy rains.
According to a report by GMA’s 24 Oras on Friday, the man tried to cling to his motorcycle as the strong current carried both him and his vehicle downstream. Onlookers shouted for him to let go, urging him to prioritize his safety. He eventually did, escaping unharmed.
Authorities later recovered the motorcycle lodged among rocks along the riverbank the following day.
Meanwhile, in Sultan Kudarat’s Senator Ninoy Aquino town, residents struggled to cross another river that had risen after hours of rainfall. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said localized thunderstorms were behind the downpour across parts of Mindanao.
PAGASA also reported light to moderate rains in Isabela province due to easterlies, while heavy rain in Daet, Camarines Norte, led to traffic disruptions and near-zero visibility in some areas.
As a precaution ahead of Tropical Depression Ramil, the local government of Viga in Catanduanes placed its disaster teams on alert. The Philippine Coast Guard likewise suspended sea trips in Catanduanes and Camarines Norte amid worsening weather conditions.
