Rider loses money meant for sick child’s treatment in robbery; baby dies before father arrives

A motorcycle rider in Pasay City lost more than just valuables in a recent robbery—he also lost the chance to save his ailing 10-month-old child, ABS-CBN News reported.

While resting on the service road along Roxas Boulevard in Barangay 76 around 2 a.m. on May 26, the man was suddenly attacked. According to PMaj. Allan Valdez, chief investigator of the Pasay City Police Station’s Investigation and Detective Management Section, the suspects struck the victim on the head, knocking him unconscious.

The robbers fled with his motorcycle, phone, wallet, and most heartbreakingly, the money he had set aside for his hospitalized child’s treatment.

“He’s a father. Of course, when you learn your child is sick, your instinct is to use whatever money you have to help them… But because of what happened, the amount he brought never made it,” Valdez said.

By the time the father regained consciousness and made it to the hospital, it was too late—his baby had died.

The heartbreaking incident quickly spread across social media, stirring outrage and grief among netizens.

Police have since arrested two suspects who were identified through CCTV footage. Both men have prior records related to illegal gambling and drugs. Though now in custody, they continue to deny any involvement in the crime.

“If we were really the ones who did it, then everything should be recovered,” one suspect said. Another added, “Maybe we were just mistaken because we were caught on CCTV.”

The two men are now facing multiple charges including robbery, carnapping, and perjury.
