The family of the late actor Rico Yan has responded to the recent surge of TikTok content featuring his tomb at the Manila Memorial Park. This comes as netizens, particularly from Generation Z, have been sharing past video clips and photos of Yan, and some have even visited his resting place to create content.
While this trend has sparked mixed reactions, with some older fans finding it disrespectful, Rico Yan’s family has addressed these concerns. Bobby Yan, the actor’s older brother, shared the family’s stance in an ABS-CBN News report. “We have spoken to the caretaker of Rico’s tomb, and we were told that it’s nothing to be concerned about for now,” Bobby Yan stated.
He also mentioned that the family has welcomed visitors to Rico’s tomb for the past 22 years. “We welcome po anyone from anywhere. We have visitors from abroad visit Rico’s tomb and there are visitors weekly since 22 years ago,” he said.
However, the family is mindful of potential disruptions. Bobby Yan emphasized that if the activities around the tomb become bothersome to neighboring mausoleums, they will take appropriate actions. He reassured that the family’s primary concern is to maintain a respectful environment at the cemetery.
Reflecting on Rico Yan’s legacy as a youth ambassador, Bobby Yan expressed that the family believes Rico would appreciate the continued interest and admiration from the younger generation. Rico Yan passed away in March 2002 at the age of 27 due to acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis, leaving a lasting impact on the entertainment industry and his fans.
