The reward for information leading to the capture of the killer of Philippine eagle Mangayon has been increased to P100,000.
Davao de Oro Governor Dorothy Gonzaga initially offered P50,000, which was matched by Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo Loyzaga.
This reward aims to intensify efforts to seek justice for Mangayon, who was shot and later died from severe blood loss in July 2024. Military troops found the weakened eagle with a left-wing injury in Barangay Mangayon, Compostela town, as reported by the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF).
Mangayon is the 20th eagle rescued since 2020 and the fourth gunshot victim this year. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the killing to come forward and assist in the investigation.
