Retired teacher killed by truck while buying food for grandchild’s graduation

A 66-year-old retired teacher died after being hit by a truck while crossing a street in Pototan, Iloilo on Tuesday. She was on her way to buy food for her grandchild’s elementary graduation.

According to police, the grandmother had just left her grandchild at a beauty salon to prepare for the ceremony and was heading to a nearby fast food restaurant when the incident happened along F. Parcon Street.

She was reportedly using the pedestrian lane when the truck struck her.

The driver told authorities he did not see the victim and only stopped after hearing people shouting.

The woman sustained multiple injuries and fractured legs. She was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The truck driver is now in police custody.
