Rep. Paolo Duterte accused of bar assault in Davao City

A complaint has been filed before the Department of Justice (DOJ) against Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo “Polong” Duterte over an alleged assault incident that took place in a local bar earlier this year.

Kristone John Patria, the complainant, claimed that Duterte, reportedly intoxicated at the time, tried to stab him during a confrontation inside the Hearsay Gastropub in Barangay Obrero on February 23.

The complaint, which includes charges of physical injuries and grave threats, was confirmed by DOJ Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon.

Patria said fear of retaliation initially prevented him from reporting the incident or seeking medical help. He only moved forward with the case nearly two months later, citing the presence of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the bar as evidence to support his claims.

As of this writing, authorities are still in the process of verifying the authenticity of the video.
