Batangas 1st District Rep. Leandro Leviste disclosed that information reached his office indicating a former senior official of the Department of Public Works and Highways was preparing to cooperate with investigators in the ongoing scrutiny of flood control projects.
Speaking during an interview on The Big Story, Leviste said the information suggested that Catalina Cabral had been considering a formal move to become a state witness in relation to alleged irregularities tied to flood control funding and implementation.
The lawmaker said he was also provided with what he described as an official statement attributed to Cabral’s family, which he received around the same time as the information about her intentions. He did not elaborate on the contents of the family statement during the interview.
According to Leviste, the information relayed to him pointed to Cabral’s willingness to disclose further details about the supposed anomalies surrounding the flood control projects, beyond what had already surfaced publicly or in legislative discussions.
Cabral, a former undersecretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways, died on December 18 after she allegedly fell into a ravine along Kennon Road in Tuba.
