Relic of Blessed Carlo Acutis to visit the Philippines ahead of sainthood

A relic of Blessed Carlo Acutis, the teenager poised to become the Catholic Church’s first millennial saint, will be brought to the Philippines later this year.

From November 28 to December 15, a section of Acutis’ pericardium — the fibrous tissue that surrounds and protects the heart — will be in the country, according to CBCP News. The visit has been confirmed by his home diocese of Assisi–Nocera Umbra–Gualdo Tadino and will be entrusted to the Friends of Blessed Carlo Acutis Philippines.

“This historic visit is a moment of renewal and celebration for the Filipino Church, especially for our youth and families, who are invited to encounter the witness of the young saint who reminds us that the Eucharist is truly our ‘highway to Heaven,’” the group said in a statement.

The pilgrimage will be guided by Bishop Dennis Villarojo of Malolos.

Carlo Acutis, remembered for using technology to spread the Catholic faith, passed away in 2006 at just 15 years old after battling leukemia. His canonization, set to take place this Sunday, will mark him as the first millennial to be declared a saint by the Church.
