Miguel Linao and his family were celebrated as Hong Kong’s one-millionth Filipino tourists of 2024, marking a milestone for the destination. The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) announced that the number of Filipino visitors this year surpassed the 930,000 recorded in 2018.
The HKTB highlighted the Philippines’ growing importance as a key market in its tourism recovery efforts. From January to October 2024, Filipino tourists accounted for 920,000 of the 2.3 million arrivals from Southeast Asia—a 127 percent recovery compared to pre-pandemic levels.
HKTB Executive Director Dane Cheng expressed delight over Hong Kong’s status as a top travel destination for Filipinos. Across Southeast Asia, tourist arrivals have reached 95 percent of pre-pandemic levels, making the region Hong Kong’s fastest-recovering market.
Data from HKTB reveals that Southeast Asian travelers, including Filipinos, are predominantly young, spend an average of HK$7,100 per trip, and stay about 3.4 nights in Hong Kong.
In a bid to attract more Filipino tourists, Ngong Ping 360 introduced a 15 percent discount at select shops earlier this year, emphasizing the appeal of its cable car system, the longest in Asia.
