Abu Dhabi authorities released a dramatic video showing the moment a car flipped over after a reckless overtaking attempt ended in a high-speed crash. The incident, caused by sudden lane switching and tailgating, highlights the ongoing dangers of careless driving on the emirate’s roads.
In the footage, a grey vehicle is seen accelerating aggressively in a middle lane before dangerously veering left in an attempt to squeeze between two other cars. With minimal space to maneuver, the car slams into a black vehicle, sending the grey car airborne and crashing into the roadside barrier. The black car is seen swerving abruptly to avoid further impact.
Authorities reiterated their warning that sudden lane changes and tailgating are among the top causes of road accidents. They also reminded drivers of the hefty penalties in place for such violations.
Under current traffic laws, driving in a way that endangers lives carries a fine of Dh2,000, 23 black points, and a 60-day vehicle impoundment. To retrieve an impounded vehicle, a Dh50,000 payment is required.
