Princess of Wales, Kate, undergoes preventative chemotherapy following cancer discovery

Kate, the Princess of Wales, has started preventative chemotherapy after a recent cancer discovery, she announced in a video message on Friday. The revelation comes after the 42-year-old royal underwent major abdominal surgery in January for what was initially described as a non-cancerous condition. Following her surgery, further tests indicated the presence of cancer, prompting the commencement of chemotherapy in February.

The Princess, married to Prince William, heir to the British throne, expressed shock at the diagnosis but reassured that she is well and steadily gaining strength. She and Prince William have sought to handle this challenge privately, especially for the well-being of their young family, which includes Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5.

This news arrives shortly after King Charles, Kate’s father-in-law, disclosed his own cancer treatment plans, temporarily stepping back from royal duties. Kensington Palace has opted not to disclose further details about Kate’s cancer type but confirmed her ongoing recovery and treatment commencement.

The Princess’s absence from public duties since her surgery had fueled widespread speculation. She emphasized the importance of taking time to recover and to carefully explain her health situation to her children, who just started their school holidays.

Kate’s last public appearance was at a Christmas Day church service alongside other royal family members. She highlighted her focus on healing “in mind, body, and spirits” and remains optimistic about her recovery.
