President Sheikh Mohamed has officially designated February 28 as the Emirati Day for Education, commemorating a pivotal moment in the UAE’s history. In a recent post on X, the President highlighted that on this day in 1982, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father of the UAE, witnessed the graduation of the first group of teachers from UAE University, marking a key milestone in the nation’s development.
The President emphasized that this day will honour educators and acknowledge their significant contributions to the UAE’s progress. Education, he noted, has been central to the UAE’s development since its inception, serving as a foundation for the nation’s advancement.
UAE University, established in 1976 by Sheikh Zayed, is the country’s oldest university and remains a leading academic institution. The UAE continues to focus on advancing education, with the recent announcement of Dubai National University, set to receive a Dh4.5 billion investment, further underscoring the nation’s commitment to educational excellence.
UAE universities regularly rank highly on global scales, with recent achievements including UAE University’s top 38 spot in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings and the American University of Sharjah’s strong standing in the QS World Rankings. The country’s leadership continues to motivate and support students and educators, with initiatives such as Sheikh Mohamed’s personal message to students as the 2024 academic year began.
