Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is set to visit Dubai later this month, marking his first official trip to the United Arab Emirates. The visit aligns with his participation in the global climate conference COP28, scheduled to take place at Expo City Dubai from November 30 to December 12.
Philippine Consul General in Dubai, Renato Dueñas, announced that President Marcos is expected to engage with the Filipino community at the Dubai World Trade Centre on November 29. Dueñas highlighted that this visit is President Marcos’s first to Dubai in 15 years. The event with the Filipino community is open to the public, operating on a “first come, first serve” basis. Dueñas noted that registration details for the meeting will be available by Monday (November 20) or Tuesday on the Philippine Consulate General Dubai’s Facebook page.
The visit follows an invitation from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to President Marcos to attend COP28. Philippine Ambassador to the UAE, Alfonso Ver, expressed optimism about this visit strengthening sustainable development cooperation between the two nations. He mentioned the potential signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Climate Change Cooperation and the Framework Agreement on Renewable Energy between the Philippines and the UAE during this visit.
