Popular eatery in Qatar pauses cash payments following internal robbery

A well-known dining brand in Qatar has shifted to card-only transactions after uncovering a serious internal theft linked to cash handling, prompting a temporary policy change across its outlets.

Poori & Karak, which operates eight locations around the country, said the incident involved several staff members and led to what it described as substantial financial damage. Management characterized the case as the most severe internal loss the company has faced this year, though it declined to release a figure for the amount taken.

The company announced the suspension of all cash payments through its official Instagram page, stressing that the measure applies to every branch, including sites at Qatar Sports Club and in Al Wakra. According to the statement, the restriction is not permanent and will be reviewed once internal safeguards are reinforced.

Management explained that the theft was carried out via cash transactions, prompting the decision to remove cash handling altogether for now. The move, it said, is intended to “protect the company’s assets, enhance transparency, and ensure the integrity of financial operations.”

While addressing the incident, the company emphasized that it continues to trust its wider workforce, noting its appreciation for employees who remain committed and cooperative despite the disruption.
