Pope Francis landed at Soekarno–Hatta International Airport in Jakarta on Tuesday, marking the start of his tour through Southeast Asia. This visit to Indonesia, a country with a significant Muslim population, is the first stop on a four-nation journey that will span nearly two weeks, making it the longest trip of his papacy.
The 87-year-old pontiff’s tour, which began on September 2, includes stops in Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, and Singapore. The trip is focused on promoting interreligious dialogue, peace, and solidarity among diverse faith communities. In Jakarta, Pope Francis will meet with Catholic leaders, participate in an interfaith gathering at the Istiqlal Mosque, and lead a public Mass. His next destinations will involve engaging with local Catholic communities and addressing social issues in the region.
