A police officer-turned-vlogger who stirred controversy for his social media rants against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and top police officials has officially resigned from the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Patrolman Francis Steve Fontillas, previously assigned to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), submitted his irrevocable resignation, which was accepted by NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin, making his departure effective April 10.
The QCPD confirmed the development following public concerns over Fontillas’ continued online criticisms of the PNP. His recent content includes a video of a reported clash between police and protesters during Labor Day.
“He no longer holds any position or affiliation with the PNP,” QCPD clarified in a statement, adding that Fontillas’ views as a civilian no longer reflect the organization’s stance.
Despite being under restrictive custody at Camp Karingal, Fontillas continued posting commentaries online, frequently targeting PNP chief Gen. Rommel Marbil, CIDG director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III, and PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo—mainly over the arrest of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
Fontillas, who denies being biased, has been known to share pro-Duterte content. Under PNP rules, active officers are prohibited from engaging in political activities or partisan expression.
His resignation, however, does not exempt him from pending administrative charges, QCPD officer-in-charge Col. Randy Glenn Silvio said. “These cases will continue as the alleged violations happened while he was still in service,” Silvio explained, referring to complaints filed before the National Police Commission for grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer.
If found guilty, Fontillas could be permanently barred from holding any government position. He is also facing a separate inciting to sedition case now under review by the Quezon City prosecutor’s office.
