Police arrest suspect in gruesome murder of Australian couple and Filipino relative

A suspect in the July 10 murder of an Australian couple and their Filipino relative at a hotel in Tagaytay City has turned himself in, police confirmed on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old suspect surrendered to local officials late Tuesday before being handed over to the Tagaytay police on Wednesday. The victims, David Fisk, 57, his Filipino-born Australian wife Lucita Cortez, 55, and her relative Mary Jane Cortez, 30, were found dead at The Lake Hotel. The victims were discovered face down with their hands and feet bound and their faces covered with packaging tape, police reported.

The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was a former pool attendant at The Lake Hotel. He was dismissed in March for theft from a hotel room. The police noted his previous arrest for violating gun laws and his known gambling habits.

Authorities, including the town mayor, have stated that the attack appears to be an isolated incident.
