The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) expressed disappointment over the lack of official uniforms for Filipina golfers Dottie Ardina and Bianca Pagdanganan at the Paris Olympics, but emphasized that it was an isolated incident.
Ardina highlighted the issue on Friday by posting a video showing herself using tape to attach a Philippine flag to her shirt due to the absence of official attire.
According to the POC, adidas, the official apparel sponsor for Team Philippines, initially sent a set of uniforms for approval by the International Olympic Committee, but they were disapproved. Additional gear sent directly to Paris was held up by French customs, preventing its timely release.
Despite efforts to produce uniforms locally in Paris, the athletes resorted to wearing their personal attire, improvising with the Philippine flag. The POC assured that the situation did not involve any corruption, noting that the adidas uniforms were provided for free.
“We are saddened by the situation, but we have supported our athletes fully,” the POC stated. “This situation is unfortunate, but it is an isolated case. Our campaign for Paris 2024 has been a success, showcasing the hard work of the entire delegation.”
Pagdanganan and Ardina are currently competing in the final round of the women’s golf event, with Pagdanganan in joint-13th place and Ardina in 23rd.
