A suspected lung infection was detected in the left lung of dismissed Bamban Mayor Alice Guo during a medical examination before her transfer to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), according to Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo.
In an interview outside the Pasig City Jail on Monday, Fajardo confirmed that Guo underwent routine medical checks before leaving the PNP Custodial Facility. “During the medical examination, the doctor found a probable infection in her left lung,” Fajardo said. She added that the BJMP would now oversee the treatment of this possible infection.
Fajardo noted that the suspected infection, seen in a chest X-ray, could be due to stress and fatigue. “She had some colds and was coughing slightly at the hospital,” she said. BJMP spokesperson Jayrex Bustinera also mentioned that Guo would undergo further testing, including a Gene-Xpert lab test to confirm the tuberculosis impression.
Guo arrived at the Pasig City Jail’s female dormitory around 9:30 a.m. on Monday, where she will be temporarily placed in an isolation area with tuberculosis patients until the confirmatory tests are completed. If the results are negative, she will be moved to a cell with 43 other detainees.
