PNP reports 7.75% drop in crime rate over past year

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recorded a 7.75% decline in the country’s crime rate from August 2024 to June 2025 compared to the same period the previous year, according to a report by GMA News Online.

Speaking at the 124th Police Service Anniversary at Camp Crame, PNP chief Police General Nicolas Torre III said crime incidents fell from 192,677 to 177,735. He attributed the improvement to intensified anti-criminality operations and heightened police presence nationwide.

On the government’s anti-drug drive, Torre reported that from July 1, 2022 to August 10, 2025, police carried out 153,609 operations, resulting in 190,568 arrests and the seizure of illegal drugs worth around ₱54.6 billion. He said this marked a 258% increase in operations compared to 2016–2019, highlighting the campaign’s focus on both high-value and street-level offenders without resorting to violence.

Torre also noted that the PNP is tackling emerging threats such as cybercrime, human trafficking, kidnapping, and the spread of fake news. On internal reforms, he disclosed that 3,413 personnel had been sanctioned in the past year.

Under the newly launched Five-Minute Response Policy, police responded to 94% of 3,574 emergency calls within the set time from June 2 to August 10. Torre urged officers to continue earning public trust, saying, “Let us be the police force that people not only respect but truly trust.”
