PNP chief slams misinformation drive, calls out Duterte loyalists

Philippine National Police Chief General Nicolas Torre III has denounced what he described as a deliberate campaign to spread disinformation, pointing fingers at Duterte Diehard Supporters (DDS) as the primary culprits.

During a press briefing on Monday, July 21, Torre voiced concern over what he called “a clear attempt to mislead the public” through recycled and outdated content that serves as political propaganda.

“Talagang ebidensya na talagang nauubusan na ng propaganda itong mga kontra sa gobyerno natin… diretsohin na natin, yung mga DDS,” Torre stated in a Philstar.com report.

He added that these groups appear to be running out of fresh controversies to weaponize, prompting them to recycle old cases, such as a 2022 video of a Chinese national found dead in Cavite, which recently resurfaced on social media.

“Literal na hinukay sa baul para palabasin na para bang bago,” he said, stressing that this effort seems intended to stir negativity when there is little current scandal to exploit.

Torre also addressed the recent advisory from China’s Ministry of Education warning its students of safety risks in the Philippines. He challenged the credibility of the advisory, noting that many recent criminal incidents in the country involved Chinese nationals as both victims and suspects.

“So nakikita natin… Chinese ang biktima, Chinese ang perpetrator,” he said, emphasizing that the situation does not support claims of widespread threats against foreign nationals.

The PNP chief urged the public to stay vigilant against misinformation and to rely on verified sources.
