Philippine National Police chief General Nicolas Torre III has emphasized the importance of physical fitness among police officers, warning that poor health could stand in the way of future promotions.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, PNP spokesperson Colonel Jean Fajardo explained that officers should not exceed five kilograms over their ideal body weight. Those who repeatedly fail the physical fitness test could see their promotion prospects affected.
Fajardo acknowledged differences in body types but advised those with “large bellies” to begin shaping up, as public image and discipline are also at stake. “This will also show police discipline to the public,” she added.
Police personnel with serious medical conditions or disabilities are exempted from the fitness requirement, the PNP clarified.
