A flight bound for South Korea was forced to return to Kalibo International Airport after a passenger inadvertently packed a power bank in their checked-in luggage—a violation of aviation safety regulations.
According to a report by Super Radyo Kalibo, the incident occurred after the passenger informed airline staff mid-flight that they had mistakenly placed the power bank in their suitcase instead of carrying it in their hand luggage, as required.
The aircraft safely returned to Kalibo after about an hour in the air. Ground personnel immediately offloaded the bag and retrieved the power bank.
Airport authorities used the incident as a reminder for all travelers to strictly follow baggage regulations, particularly regarding electronic devices. Passengers are urged to declare items like power banks during check-in to prevent disruptions and ensure flight safety.
The reminder comes in the wake of stricter rules recently introduced by South Korea’s transport ministry, following a fire incident in March involving a portable battery on an Air Busan plane preparing to depart from an airport in Hong Kong.
