A SpiceJet flight traveling from Darbhanga to Mumbai made an emergency landing in Varanasi after an elderly woman passed away on board. The incident occurred on a SpiceJet flight SG 116, carrying Kalawati Devi, an 85-year-old woman, and her grandson.
The flight had departed from Darbhanga airport at 5:40 p.m. on Monday. However, shortly after takeoff, Ms. Devi’s health rapidly declined. As the aircraft was flying over Uttar Pradesh, the pilot urgently requested an emergency landing from the Air Traffic Control in Varanasi.
The plane safely landed at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi at 6:00 p.m. Upon landing, Ms. Devi was immediately transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead by the medical staff.
After the incident, the flight resumed its journey, departing for Mumbai at 7:30 p.m. the same evening.
