Pia Wurtzbach speaks out on navigating fame and criticism while rising in fashion industry

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach recently shared insights into the struggles of being a public figure in an Instagram post, where she reflected on the pressures that come with her fame. Responding to a question from author Miranda July’s Talk the Talk for luxury brand Prada, Pia revealed that while being in the spotlight has its perks, it also comes with significant challenges.

“Being a public figure comes with benefits and challenges. I’m grateful for the opportunities and appreciate the support from my audience, but navigating public scrutiny can be tough,” she wrote. Pia explained that even a simple comment can lead to heated online debates, making it difficult to balance authenticity with expectations.

Her candid post comes as she faces allegations of “stealing contacts” to break into the fashion industry—claims her makeup artist, Justin Soriano, quickly denied. Soriano emphasized that Pia has long been connected in the fashion world, attending major shows in New York since 2015.

Despite the rumors, Pia made history as the first Filipina to walk in the L’Oréal Paris “Le Défilé Walk Your Worth” fashion show in Paris on September 24, 2024. The event, which promotes self-love and sisterhood, featured high-profile models and actresses, including Kendall Jenner, Aishwarya Rai, and Jane Fonda. Pia also recently walked the runway for Filipino designer Michael Cinco, stunning audiences in a black mermaid gown with butterfly sleeves.

“Ultimately, staying true to yourself is what matters,” Pia reminded her followers, as she continues to make her mark in the fashion world.
