PH’s debt rises to P16.68 trillion in March as domestic borrowing increases

The Philippines’ total national government debt reached P16.68 trillion at the end of March, reflecting a slight increase of 0.31 percent from the previous month, according to the Bureau of the Treasury.

Data from the treasury revealed that the uptick was driven by a 1.39 percent rise in domestic debt, which reached P11.38 trillion. In contrast, external borrowings declined by 1.92 percent, settling at P5.30 trillion.

The latest figures highlight the government’s continued reliance on domestic borrowing while maintaining a cautious approach to foreign loans.
